Vern Sallee recently retired as a Captain from the Chula Vista Police Department after 25 years of service. At CVPD, Captain Sallee founded the department’s UAS program in 2016, with a special emphasis on community engagement and transparency. In 2018, CVPD’s was selected as the only police department to participate in the FAA’s UAS Integration Pilot Program. CVPD’s groundbreaking Drone as a First Responder (DFR) program has since flown over 3,700 public safety missions in support of first responders, saving countless lives. Captain Sallee is a subject matter expert in public safety drones and has presented at national and international conferences regarding the subject. Since his retirement, Captain Sallee accepted a position as Axon’s strategist for Axon Air, one of the company’s most exciting product developments.
